Tampa is located on the west coast of Florida. The city is a member
of the Tampa Bay metropolitan area along with St. Petersburg, Clearwater,
and some smaller communities. Old Tampa Bay and Hillsborough Bay
border the metro area, flowing into the Tampa Bay, which in turn feeds
into the Gulf of Mexico. The region's proximity to the Gulf makes
its weather warm and humid. The area abounds with attractions
including several amusement parks, the Florida Aquarium, and a variety of
museums. Ybor City, a Florida National Historic Landmark District,
draws tourists with the sights, tastes, and sounds of Latin culture.
Tampa Bay is home to a number of sports teams, among them: the
Lightning, in the NHL; the Buccaneers, in the NFL; and, perhaps best
known, the Tampa Bay Rays, recent MLB American League champions.
