The San Antonio River is central to many of the attractions in San
Antonio, Texas, home to 1.3 million residents. One of the city's
most unique and popular features is the River Walk, a stretch of shops
and cafes which meanders along the water one story below street
level. River taxis, small tour boats, and river cruisers offer
their own unique ways to experience this old-world-style landmark. The
site of Sam Houston's legendary last stand against Santa Anna and his
powerful Mexican army, the Alamo is easily the most well-known of the
18th century Spanish missions that border the river. Mission
Concepcion, Mission Espada, Mission San Jose, and Mission San Juan are
also accessible along the Mission Trail. Visitors in search of more
modern excitement can take in SeaWorld SanAntonio or a San Antonio Spurs
NBA basketball game.
