Nashville is located in central Tennessee on the banks of the Cumberland
River. The city is bigger than its population of over 600,000; it
is often referred to as "Music City," and with good reason.
Country, gospel, rock, and pop music bring in over one billion dollars in
record sales annually. Many top record labels, including Sony, RCA,
Warner Brothers, and Columbia have offices here. Entertainment also
accounts for much of the city's tourism, drawing visitors to venues such
as the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Country Music Hall
of Fame. The city is also a major publishing center, home to
prominent corporations including Thomas Nelson, one of the top Christian
book publishers in the world.
