Houston epitomizes the phrase "Everything's bigger in Texas" in many
suprisingly diverse ways. With over 2.2 million residents, it is
one of the biggest cities in the United States. Many of its
twenty-five Fortune 500 companies are energy corporations, giving it the
nickname "the Energy Capital of the World". Its Texas Medical
Center is the world's largest. The Port of Houston is one of the
biggest in the nation. NASA's largest base, Johnson Space Center,
is located here. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the
largest in the world, with more than 1.8 million visitors annually.
With eighteen museums and nine major performing arts organizations,
Houston is one of the nation's premier arts centers. The city is
also home to four major sports teams: the MLB Astros, the NBA
Rockets, the WNBA Comets, and the NFL Texans.
