The Overseas Highway (U.S. Route 1) links the subtropical isles that
extend off the tip of Florida. The 127.5-mile road stretches from
the Florida mainland to Key West over a series of bridges and isles.
Much of it was built on the Overseas Railroad right-of-way; the railroad
built by Henry Flagler. Opened in 1938, the Overseas Highway was
largely rebuilt in the 1980s.
