The White House is the official residence and office workplace of the
President of the United States. Built between 1792 and 1800, it is
located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, DC. It is
built of white-painted sandstone. Included in the White House
complex are the Executive Residence, the West Wing, the East Wing, and the
Old Executive Office Building. The building is surrounded by gardens
and security fencing. Tours for the general public have been
suspended since September 11, 2001.
