Monument Valley is located on the Arizona/Utah border. The area is
flat and wide, with a desert landscape of trees and shrubs as well as red
mesas, buttes, and spires. The colors are magnificent, and the
sandstone rock formations are hundreds of feet high. Wildflowers
bloom in profusion in the Spring. Some of the area is accessible
through Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, and a number of Navajo Indians
live in Monument Valley. Photographers are drawn to this area not
only by the rock formations, but also by the wide open area with its vast
blue sky and the shadows produced by cloud formations. It has been
the site of numerous motion pictures. Narrated tours are available
through the area.
