Minneapolis, Minnesota is perhaps best known for its Mall of America, the
largest retail and entertainment complex in the United States and home to
the nation's largest indoor theme park. However, this city of
approximately 370,000 also has a booming art scene, numerous cultural
venues and events, and several pro sports teams. Minneapolis is
sometimes called "Design City" because of its stunning architecture, a
testament to substantial investment in recent years into innovative
development. Walker Art Center, one of the best contemporary art
museums in the country, and the Guthrie, a Tony Award-winning theater,
are a few examples of this city's many cultural offerings. Sports
fans cheer on Twins baseball, Timberwolves basketball, and Minnesota Wild
hockey. The city's diverse heritage is celebrated in the Festival
of Nations at the Saint Paul RiverCentre, with shopping, cuisine, and
performances from nearly one hundred different ethnic groups.
